Social Media Cure for Unemployment Blues

Last year  I lost my job. Ten years at one company and my anniversary gift is unemployment. I immediately knew that all the networking I had done for my job was the key to my next career. Small talk always lead to loyal clients. Monster.com was not the answer. My resume against thousands of others! How would I be recognized?

I shouldn’t have been surprised at the loss. Workload was slow and I had plenty of time to volunteer with the animal shelter. I even started twitter and updating facebook for them. This social media thing works! Connecting with other animal lovers, saving lives, what a great feeling. .

BAM! No job. No money.

I learned everything I possibly could from local bloggers. Thanks to them I had the courage to get online and connect with others. Let people see that I was more than just a resume. LinkedIn mixed with Facebook and Twitter, I never felt happier! I received several interview calls! Time to turn off Oprah!

One night I was online and found Social Media Club. Wow ! People all over the world get together to share how they use social media. Bummer, there’s no SMC near me! So why not start one? Its either that or stay home depressed watching TV all day. Anyone who knows me will attest that I need to be around people! My old boss used to say, “Cara, be personable, not personal” and this chatty chick always had a problem with that. Now, social media proves that being personal DOES work in business.

So… SMCVB was born. I have met the most amazing people. Learned valuable lessons about group dynamics and ALOT about social media. People have come to me to ask me to teach THEM about how to use it for their own businesses!

So…. Black Dog Social Media was born. I am excited to use this blog and my business to help others connect globally which in turn brings them prosperity.
