How did you feel when you got your own first Follow Friday mention? Its pretty  good feeling, right?

  • A Follow Friday where you are mentioned with a comment as to WHY you should be followed, is like an Oscar nod.
  • Receiving more followers from a Follow Friday mention, is like taking home the statue. They like me! They really like me!

But Wait!

redcarpetaward

Have you ever followed someone on Twitter without checking their profile just because you saw them listed in a trusted Twitter friend’s Follow Friday tweet?

Be careful as there are some movies that win awards that are not really worthwhile as they played the promotions game and won anyway.

So how do I recognize quality and integrity? Do you ever post a Twitter Follow Friday (known as #FF in the Twitterverse)  for someone you really don’t recommend?

Think about how valuable the #FF really is.

Always be authentic in what you say and who you recommend. Always mention WHY you suggest that person be followed.Recommend those whose tweets made you stop and think, who made you laugh, whose entertainment or insight is worth telling others about, or who had a real Twitter conversation with you.

Golden Rule for a Golden Globe: Build trust in social media.

Nice post Cara! I love it when I receive Follow Friday mentions. And totally agree to be careful of following without researching. Its kind of like a blind date – you wouldn’t go on a 2nd date if you don’t like the person. So why would you give them a place in your ‘follow’ list? Nice job!

  8. Great piece on keeping Social networking REAL and human. Yep, the “why part” is critical when sharing the famous #ff love on Twitter. However, I do have a few (#FF posts) that I share without the “why” as I know they are my Twitter gurus…and I assumed (the oops word) that anyone in social media must know this folks. So I will watch this, and ensure I take the time to place the “why” in my #ff!
